The House of Representatives has instructed the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to transfer N3.602 billion to the Federal Government Consolidated Revenue Fund (CRF) within the next 30 days.
This directive, issued by Hon. Bamidele Salam, Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee, was delivered during an investigative hearing in Abuja. Salam stressed that this remittance is a legal obligation and not subject to personal interpretation.
The Fiscal Responsibility Commission (FRC) had previously flagged JAMB for failing to remit its operating surplus, which had accumulated to N3.602 billion by 2022. Despite multiple notifications from the FRC, JAMB did not respond. In its defense, JAMB’s Director of Finance and Administration, Mr. Mufutau Bello, attributed the discrepancy to a change in the remittance percentage from 25% to 50%, and cited the reduction in registration fees in 2019 as a factor impacting their finances.
The resolution of this issue will depend on JAMB’s compliance with the House’s directive and further discussions with the FRC.
