The Department of State Services (DSS) has clarified the reason for its officers' visit to the Abuja office of the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP).
Contrary to reports of a raid, the DSS described the visit as part of a routine investigation, dismissing claims of harassment and intimidation. In a statement, the DSS urged the public to disregard what it called "false narratives," emphasizing its commitment to professionalism.
SERAP had taken to social on Monday to report that DSS officers were ‘unlawfully occupying’ their office asking to see their directors.
SERAP Deputy Director KOLAWOLE OLUWADARE condemned the DSS's actions, labeling the visit an attack on human rights and NGOs in Nigeria.
