In a historic move, Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia has appointed Barr. Aber Serumun Deborah as the new Secretary to the State Government (SSG), marking the first time a woman has held this position. The appointment follows the resignation of the former SSG, Prof. Joseph Alakali, who stepped down to address personal matters.
The announcement was made by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Sir Tersoo Kula. Prof. Alakali’s resignation letter, submitted yesterday, cited personal challenges as the reason for his departure. Governor Alia expressed his gratitude for Alakali’s service over the past year and three months and wished him well in overcoming his challenges.
Barr. Aber Serumun Deborah, a seasoned solicitor and arbitrator, brings a strong sense of initiative and excellent analytical skills to her new role. She is a graduate of the University of Jos and Nasarawa State University. Governor Alia praised her for her experience and record of service, expressing confidence that she will greatly contribute to his administration’s success.
The appointment is effective immediately, and Governor Alia has urged Barr. Aber to align her work with the administration's vision and prioritize the interests of the state.
