Organizers of the 8th National Youth Games, beginning this Thursday in Asaba, have highlighted the event's significant impact on sports, commerce, and career development. Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State emphasized that the Games will be a pivotal platform for emerging talents, offering them the opportunity to be recognized and cultivated into future elite athletes.
Governor Oborevwori noted that while some participants might advance to become national or international champions with further training, others will find diverse career opportunities within the sports industry. These opportunities include roles in coaching, sports administration, and management, as well as in related fields such as equipment manufacturing, sports technology, and sports medicine.
The economic benefits of the Games extend beyond the sporting arena. With over 15,000 attendees, including athletes, officials, and spectators, businesses around the Games Village are preparing for increased activity. The influx of visitors is expected to drive higher demand for local goods and services, from water production to hospitality and transport.
Governor Oborevwori also pointed out that the broader community will benefit from this economic boost. Businesses such as hotels, transport providers, and local vendors will experience increased sales due to the high number of visitors.
The opening ceremony on Thursday, 12 September 2024, will feature karate, para table tennis, weightlifting, and table tennis, setting the stage for an exciting and impactful event.
