For this weekend’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, Nigerian referees will once again be prominently featured on the officiating roster. According to the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Dr. Joseph Ogabor is set to lead a team of Nigerian officials to South Sudan for the match between South Sudan and South Africa on September 10, 2024.
Dr. Ogabor, a lecturer at the University of Calabar and a member of the Cross River State Referees Council, recently completed a CAF-organized VAR course in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, for WAFU Zone B. He will be the central referee for this match, accompanied by Yakubu Mahmud from the Bauchi State Referees Council and Tejiri Digbori
from Delta State as Assistant Referee 1 and 2, respectively. Abubakar Abdulahi from Niger State will serve as the fourth official.
Nigeria Whistlers notes that Dr. Ogabor and other Nigerian referees have been consistently recognized by FIFA and CAF for their officiating excellence.
