NDLEA Seizes Cocaine, Opioids Concealed in Sanitary Pads and Hair Creams, Dismantles Cannabis Farms Across Nigeria


Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have made significant drug seizures in Lagos, intercepting cocaine and pharmaceutical opioids hidden in unconventional packaging. On September 3, 2024, they recovered 1.1 kilograms of cocaine concealed in hair cream containers intended for Ireland. Another shipment of 24 parcels of cocaine, weighing 862 grams, was also seized on September 6, similarly hidden in hair cream containers destined for the UK. Additionally, on September 3, 525 pills of tramadol and ecstasy concealed in ladies’ sanitary pads were intercepted, while another shipment of 200 ampoules of promethazine and pentazocine hidden in food items was seized on September 4, all destined for London.


On September 6, NDLEA operatives intercepted tramadol concealed in granulated melon coming from Cameroon and bound for South Africa. Earlier, on September 2, they seized 550,000 pills of tramadol at Port Harcourt International Airport from a shipment arriving from Delhi, India, with one suspect arrested. In Ekiti State, NDLEA, in collaboration with the Nigerian Army, destroyed over 100,000 kilograms of cannabis on September 3 and 4 from three farms within the Ise-Ekiti forest reserve.


In other operations, two suspects were arrested in Kaduna on September 6 with 305 kilograms of cannabis concealed in a false compartment of a bus. On the same day, anot
her uspect was apprehended with 18 kilograms of cannabis in Makarfi town. In Jigawa State, 32.6 kilograms of cannabis were seized on September 5. Kogi State authorities intercepted 77,300 pills of tramadol, diazepam, and exol-5, along with 1,230 bottles of codeine on September 5, while another suspect was caught with 42.4 kilograms of cannabis on September 3. In Borno State, 13,100 pills of tramadol were seized on September 5, and in Kano, 25.8 kilograms of cannabis and 3,000 pills of diazepam were confiscated on September 4.
