The Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) has revised the age requirement for candidates in the upcoming Local Government elections, reducing the minimum age from 30 to 25 years. This change aligns with Section 7(4) and Section 106 of the Nigerian Constitution, which states that candidates must be at least 25 years old to qualify for election.
In light of this adjustment, OGSIEC has extended the deadline for party primaries by one week. Originally scheduled to conclude on Monday, September 9, the primaries will now end on Monday, September 16, 2024. Additionally, the deadline for political parties to collect personal data forms (CF001 and CF002) has been extended to Friday, September 20, 2024.
Political parties that have already held their primaries may begin collecting forms for their candidates starting Tuesday, September 10, 2024. Submissions of these forms will be accepted from Monday, September 16, to Friday, September 20, 2024.
A meeting with all political parties is scheduled for Monday, September 9, 2024, at 12 noon at the Commission’s Headquarters in Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta. Each party is requested to send up to two representatives for this meeting.
All other aspects of the previously announced election timetable, including the Chairmanship and Councillorship elections set for November 16, 2023, remain unchanged.
