TUC Condemns Fuel Price Hike, Warns of Increased Poverty and Urges Government Action

The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) has strongly criticized the recent surge in fuel prices, warning that it will worsen poverty among workers. In a statement issued by TUC President, Comrade Festus Osifo, the union urged the Federal Government to promptly reverse the decision, implement policies to strengthen the naira, and take concrete actions to alleviate the hardships faced by Nigerians.

The TUC argued that the abrupt increase, introduced without consulting key stakeholders, shows a disregard for the welfare of the Nigerian populace, particularly the working class who will suffer most from such measures.

Osifo emphasized that the hike in fuel and electricity prices will intensify existing challenges, potentially leading to increased hardship and social unrest. He called on the government to act swiftly to rebuild confidence and prevent further declines in living standards.

The TUC reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for the rights and interests of Nigerian workers, and will continue to push for policies that ensure social justice, fair wages, and improved working conditions.
