And the Federal Government is set to introduce the latest version of Internet Protocol, known as IPv6, to enhance the identification, numbering and tracking of Internet users and their devices in Nigeria.
This announcement was made during the IPv6 Driven Digital Summit organised by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA).
The Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, BOSUN TIJANI said the new protocol is expected to improve the management and security of internet traffic, simplifying the monitoring and protection of online activities.
According to him, it will also align Nigeria with global standards for cybersecurity and digital infrastructure.
Also speaking, the Director General of the NITDA, KASHIFU INUWA highlighted the protocol’s potential to unmask cybercriminals, significantly boosting the country’s cybersecurity efforts.
