In a bid to enhance public health and environmental sustainability, the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency and the Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency have launched a joint media campaign to ban open defecation along the Lagos/Ibadan Expressway.
The state Commissioner, Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, TOKUNBO WAHAB, disclosed this in a statement on X.
According to WAHAB, the campaign led by the General Manager of LASEPA, BABATUNDE AJAYI and the Special Adviser to the Ogun State Governor on Environmental Protection Matter, OLUWADARE KEHINDE, aims to prevent the spread of cholera and other communicable diseases, while restoring the aesthetic appeal of the vital corridor.
The General Manager of LASEPA, BABATUNDE AJAYI also emphasized the importance of raising awareness among residents about the health risks associated with open defecation, particularly during the rainy season.
He noted the dangers of cholera and other waterborne diseases, adding that the state is at a risk of waterborne diseases especially during this rainy season when the risk of water contamination has significantly increased.
