Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has announced the upcoming relaunch of the Ogun Youth Empowerment and Entrepreneurial Scheme (OGYES), which will offer grants ranging from N500,000 to N10 million for business-oriented youths. This initiative is aimed at supporting unemployed youth and women by providing them with financial resources to expand their businesses. Additionally, the program will include interest-free digital loans for other young individuals.
Governor Abiodun made this announcement during the Remo International Youth Day celebration, themed ‘Transforming Food Systems: Youth Innovation for Human and Planetary Health,’ held at Christ Apostolic Grammar School, Iperu-Remo. He revealed plans to provide digital and vocational training to further equip youth with essential skills.
The governor also introduced the Ogun Youth Agricultural Programme, which will replicate the Soilless Farm Lab model from Awowo, Ewekoro Local Government Area. The new program, starting in Remoland, aims to train 2,000 youths every three months, totaling 8,000 annually, in advanced agricultural techniques and greenhouse management.
Governor Abiodun emphasized the critical role of youth involvement in agriculture for achieving food security and enhancing agricultural productivity. He also highlighted ongoing agricultural initiatives, such as rice planting, which showcases the state’s commitment to agricultural development.
During the event, the Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remoland, Oba Babatunde Ajayi, urged the youth to remain diligent and called for government support in providing agricultural equipment. Commissioner for Sports Development, Hon. Wasiu Isiaka, praised the summit for its impact on youth development and acknowledged the contributions of the Remo Growth and Development Foundation.
Comrade Bidemi Solarin, Chairman of the Remo Youth Association, encouraged government efforts to create more opportunities for youths in agriculture and commended Governor Abiodun for establishing a dedicated ministry for youth development.
