NHRC Asks Security Agents To Protect Protesters

Ahead of the August 1, 2024, proposed hardship protest, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has called on law enforcement agencies to ensure the protection of protesters as well as public or private properties.

The Executive Secretary of the commission, TONY OJUKWU, made this call in Abuja, while calling on all parties involved to avoid actions that would undermine the country’s democracy.

OJUKWU reiterated the obligations of the federal and state governments to facilitate peaceful assemblies by ensuring full protection of protest assemblies.

The commission said through dialogue, respect for human rights and adherence to the rule of law, it is possible to address the grievances of the protesters while maintaining public order.
