The draw for the table tennis events at the Paris Olympics has been held, and Team Nigeria faces a challenging path.
Nigeria’s top player, Aruna Quadri, received a bye for the opening round but will face a formidable opponent, Romania's Edouard Lonescu, in the Round of 64. The two have previously competed once, in the semi-finals of the European Champions League, where Lonescu narrowly defeated Quadri 3-2. Their upcoming match at Paris 2024 will be their second encounter.
In the men’s singles, Olajide Omotayo is set to face a tough challenge against Iran’s Noshad Alamiyan in the first round. Offiong Edem will compete against Brazil’s Bruna Takahashi, while debutant Fatimo Bello will take on the Chinese-born French player Jia Nana Yuan in the first round of the Women’s Singles.
Should Aruna Quadri advance past Lonescu, he will encounter world number one Wang Chuqin in the Round of 32.
