NASS Passes Bill For IGP To Complete Four-Year Tenure

The National Assembly has passed the Police Act Amendment Bill to enable a person appointed to the office of Inspector General of Police (IGP) to remain in office until the end of the term stipulated in the letter of appointment.

President BOLA TINUBU forwarded the Bill to the House of Representatives and Senate to amend the tenure of the IGP.

The Bill for an Act to amend the Nigeria Police Act 2020 seeks to transform police operations by enhancing accountability, modernizing policing methods and fostering a more harmonious relationship between the police and the community.

The Bill scaled second and third readings and was passed by lawmakers in both green and red chambers.

The upper and lower chambers passed the bill at separate sittings.

President TINUBU is expected to sign the Bill into law.

In another development, President TINUBU is set to commission the newly built Nigeria Police National Cybercrime Centre in Abuja.

A statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP OLUMUYIWA ADEJOBI said the facility will be commissioned tomorrow.
