The Lagos State Government has expressed commitment to embark on aggressive sting-operation to arrest and prosecute suspected fake personnel enforcing state’s traffic laws along some identified areas of the state.
The alert by the state government became necessary following series of petitions and complaints by members of the public over rising cases of fake traffic personnel under the guise of being state government officials, extorting motorists.
The groups, who often operate at strategic places along the highway are accompanied by some uniform men of the Nigerian Police on illegal duty.
Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transportation, OLAWALE MUSA, stated that despite recent operations by the ministry which has led to the apprehension and prosecution of several impostors, the illegal operations by these undesirable elements have continued in their large number across Lagos.
He revealed that the fake enforcement personnel, two of which were apprehended at Cele Ijesha Roundabout, Itire on Wednesday, have spread to such areas as; Mushin, Itire, Ijesha, Ilasa, and Ikeja, adding that they have been impeding traffic through their activities and exploiting unsuspecting motorists.
MUSA said the state government would continue to take decisive actions against fraudulent activities, adding that the apprehended impostors would be charged to court and prosecuted in accordance with the laws of the state.
