The Federal Government and the Organized Labour have settled for 70, 000 naira as the new minimum wage.
The agreement was reached after the meeting between President BOLA TINUBU and the leadership of the Organized Labour as well as some members of the government team on the Tripartite Committee on the new national minimum wage.
Speaking to State House correspondents after the closed-door meeting with the President, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, MOHAMMED IDRIS, disclosed that President TINUBU agreed to pay 70, 000 naira from the initial offer of 62,000 naira.
Also speaking, the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, NKEIRUKA ONYEJEOCHA said that President TINUBU has always shown that he would not disappoint the country which he has exhibited.
She said the President reassured Nigerians that he is not going to rest as he is working diligently to make sure that the economy recovers.
The leaders of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) announced that they have accepted the 70,000 naira minimum wage approved for Nigerian workers by President BOLA TINUBU.
The President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade JOE AJAERO, accompanied by President of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Comrade FESTUS USIFO and other representatives of Nigerian workers, stated that the unions had accepted the offer because there were other incentives attached.
The Labour leaders said that the president’s pledge of a review every three years was another factor in their decision to accept the offer.
