The Ogun State Executive Council has approved the construction of five new roads across the State. The announcement was made by the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ade Akinsanya, during a press conference on Thursday, where he provided updates on ongoing road construction projects in the State.
The newly approved roads include Alagbole-Ajuwon, Akute-Ajuwon, Toyin-Gowahercules Road, and Oke-Aro, all located in Ifo Local Government Area within the Ogun Central Senatorial District. Additionally, Oke-Erinja and Erinja roads in Yewa South, as well as Awokoya Road in Ijebu-Ode Local Government Area, are also part of the new projects.
Engr. Akinsanya also discussed the state government's commitment to the continuation of the Akute-Ijoko Road reconstruction. The remaining 17 kilometers of this project will be executed in two phases: the first phase will cover the section from Akute to Oke Aro, addressing flooding issues, while the second phase will extend from Oke Aro to Ijoko.
In his update on the Lagos-Ota-Sango-Abeokuta Road, the commissioner revealed that the State Executive Council awarded the reconstruction contract to Craneburg Construction Company on March 28. The company accepted the contract in April, and necessary administrative processes at the federal level are still underway. The reconstruction work will proceed in phases, starting from Sango to Abeokuta with four teams working simultaneously. Despite some pending paperwork, the governor's decision to commence the project aims to alleviate the daily challenges faced by commuters.
Furthermore, Engr. Akinsanya highlighted that the governor has also facilitated additional federal projects, including Phase One of the Laderin Train Station Road. This project consists of two phases: the construction of the road from Laderin to the train station and the channelization of stormwater into the drainage system.
The commissioner noted the governor's significant role in advancing 14 other ongoing projects across the state, such as the Ilisan Market Road to Babcock. He also mentioned that his ministry is collaborating with the federal government on the rehabilitation of 21 more roads in Ado Odo/Ota, Yewa North and South, and Abeokuta North and South.
One major initiative that the governor has been instrumental in is the reconstruction of the Sango-Atan-Owode-Idi-Iroko Road. This project, which includes the construction of two bridges and a flyover to ease traffic congestion at key intersections, marks a significant development after years of planning.
Engr. Akinsanya attributed road damage issues in the state to improper waste disposal in drainage systems and construction on floodplains. He assured citizens that the government is monitoring road conditions across all local government areas and emphasized that prioritization criteria will be used to address these issues. He called for patience from the public as the government works to improve the state’s road infrastructure.
