ITTF has officially seeded Nigeria’s Quadri Aruna and Egypt’s Omar Assar in the top 16 for the Men’s Singles event at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.


ITTF has officially seeded Nigeria’s Quadri Aruna and Egypt’s Omar Assar in the top 16 for the Men’s Singles event at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. 



Aruna is seeded 14th, while Assar holds the 16th seed, based on the latest ITTF World Rankings released on July 16, Players such as Nigeria’s Olajide Omotayo, Egypt’s Mohammed El-Beiali, Algeria’s Mehdi Bouloussa, Senegal’s Ibrahima Diaw, and Congo Brazzaville’s Saheed Idowu will discover their first-round opponents during the draw scheduled for July 24.


In the Women’s Singles, Egypt’s Dina Meshref narrowly missed the top 16, conceding the 16th spot to India’s Sreeja Akula, the WTT Contender Lagos champion. Consequently, Meshref, seeded 17th, and her compatriot Hana Goda, seeded 20th, will also commence their campaigns from the second round.


Furthermore, Nigeria’s duo of Offiong Edem and Fatimo Bello, along with Cameroon’s Sarah Hanffou and Algeria’s Lynda Loghraibi, will start their quest from the second round of the Women’s Singles as well.


The seeding sets the stage for exciting competition across all categories, marking table tennis' 10th appearance at the Olympic Games. China’s Wang Chuqin leads the Men’s Singles seeding, followed by Fan Zhendong, with both aiming for their maiden gold in the event.


French player Felix Lebrun, seeded third, is poised for a podium finish after recent successes, while Brazil’s Hugo Calderano and Chinese Taipei’s Lin Yun-Ju are ranked fourth and fifth respectively.


In Women’s Singles, China's Sun Yingsha and Chen Meng, alongside strong contenders like Japan’s Hina Hayata and Korea Republic's Shin Yubin, promise fierce competition. The Men’s and Women’s Team events feature China as the top seed, facing challenges from established teams like Germany and Japan.


The Mixed Doubles event highlights China’s Wang Chuqin and Sun Yingsha as favorites, with stiff competition expected from pairs like Japan’s Hina Hayata and Tomokazu Harimoto, and Korea’s Lim Jonghoon and Shin Yubin.
