The Lagos State Government has shut down the Oja Oba Market at Ile Epo over what it described as “very poor sanitary conditions”.
According to the Lagos State Commissioner for Environment, TOKUNBO WAHAB, the market was closed down by officials of the Lagos Task Force.
WAHAB said the Oja Oba Market has become notorious for failure to comply with set waste management regulations.
He noted that the decision to shut down the market was taken to protect members of the public from food-borne and water-borne diseases like cholera, typhoid, dysentery.
The commissioner also called on the public to raise the alarm anywhere they see poor sanitary practices by markets or other business outlets.
