The Federal Government said it is seeking a 500 million dollar loan from the World Bank for rural road infrastructure and agricultural marketing.
The fund is expected to address the need for better connectivity in rural Nigeria, where 92 million people currently lack access to good roads.
The Nigeria Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project Scale-UP project aims to improve rural access, thereby boosting agricultural potential and marketing prospects for agrarian communities.
This, in turn, will contribute to better livelihoods for the rural populace.
The commitment amount is 79 per cent higher than the initial World Bank commitment amount of 280 million dollar for the parent project.
According to the policy document, states willing to participate in the project are required to have a fully functional Roads Fund and Roads Agency with appointed boards and staff, and provisions for administrative costs in the state budget.
