Minimum wage: NLC, TUC suspend strike for five days

The Organized Labour comprising the Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) has suspended their industrial action due to disagreements over a new minimum wage and an increase in electricity prices.

TUC President FESTUS OSIFO made this announcement following a joint emergency national executive council meeting of the unions, on Tuesday in Abuja. The labour leader stated that a communiqué will be released soon to this effect.

On Monday, both unions embarked on strike to voice their complaints over the increase in electricity rates and the absence of agreement on a new minimum wage.

Following the scheduled 10 a.m. meeting with the Federal Government Tripartite Committee on Tuesday, Labour decided to suspend the strike. Consequently, all government and private offices are expected to reopen and operate as usual.

This development marks a critical step towards resolving the minimum wage issue, ensuring that the tripartite committee can work towards an agreeable National Minimum Wage without further disruptions.
