Around 200,100 people were naturalized as German citizens in 2023, the highest number in a single year since the turn of the millennium.

The total number of naturalizations increased by around 31,000 compared to 2022's total, a slightly smaller increase than the approximately 37,000 recorded in comparison to 2021.

The newly naturalized German citizens originally came from 157 different countries, the majority from either Syria, Turkey, Iraq, Romania, and Afghanistan.
