The Federal Government has met with thoseaffected by the demolition of property along the path of the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway to discuss the modalities for the payment of compensation on affected property.
Minister of works, DAVE UMAHI disclosed this when he met with Residents of Okun-Ajah community in Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos State to announce government’s plan to pay compensation.
He said the meeting was meant to resolve environmental issues and payment of compensation to affected property owners within the Right of Way of the 700-kilometre coastal road.
UMAHI urged the stakeholders to cooperate with the government, saying the people would derive huge economic benefits from the coastal road, adding that the economicbenefits of the project outweigh the pains to be borne by the people.
The Minister also noted that 495 structures will be demolished, if the coastal road follows the new alignment, while 750 properties would have been destroyed if its construction had followed the initial alignment.
He added that President BOLA TINUBU would flag off the road on May 26,2024, noting that the President has directed that work should go on simultaneously at all ends of the projects to ensure its completion on time.
