The Federal Government has proposed to pay N54,000 as minimum wage, as the Tripartite Committee on the New Minimum Wage returned to the negotiation table after the Organised Labour pulled out of the negotiations last week.
The Meeting is expected to continue today, after the organised labour rejected the new fifty-four thousand-naira minimum wage proposal by the Federal Government.
Tuesday’s meeting came as a result of the walkout staged by members of the organised labour following the proposal of forty-eight thousand naira as minimum wage by the Federal Government during last week’s meeting.
During the meeting, which held in Abuja yesterday, the government increased its offer from forty-eight thousand naira to fifty-five thousand naira.
National President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, JOE AJAERO, insisted on six hundred- and fifteen-thousand-naira minimum wage, arguing that the amount was arrived at after an analysis of the current economic situation and the needs of an average Nigerian family of six.
AJAERO said no seriousness from the part of the government, as state governors did not show up for the meeting, while noting that the meeting continues today.
