Electricity workers, under the umbrella of the Senior Staff Association of Electricity and Allied Companies and the National Union of Electricity Workers, have issued a 14-day ultimatum to the Federal Government over the proposed unbundling of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) and the unilateral tariff increase being implemented.
In a letter addressed to the Minister of Power, ADEBAYO ADELABU the workers accused him of unfriendly and harsh policies that had made the sector perform below the quality of service required by Nigerians.
The unions in the letter, demanded that in the interest of industrial peace and sustainability of the entire electricity value chain, the tariff increase should be reversed and that the status quo should be maintained within the next two weeks, effective May 20.
They frowned on the proposed unbundling of TCN without input from all critical stakeholders and demanded that the government should immediately direct the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission to stop it.
They also alleged that the unfortunate scenario playing out in the power sector pointed to the fact that ADELABU administered the sector like a personal estate with no consideration for the welfare and survival of the workers and the sector in general.
