Minimum wage: NLC, TUC reject FG’s proposed N48,000

Organised Labour has rejected the 48,000 naira proposed by the Federal Government as minimum wage for public service workers.

The government’s position was presented to labour by the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation at the resumed tripartite committee meeting.

In protest, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) walked out of the meeting, which was held virtually.

In a joint statement by President of the NLC, JOE AJAERO and Deputy President of the TUC, TOMMY OKON, the two labour centres said the wage proposal by the government was not just a mockery but an insult to workers' dignity.

AJAERO noted that in contrast, the Organised Private Sector proposed an initial offer of 54,000 naira.

On his part, OKON said the President BOLA TINUBU-led government was not serious about giving workers a living wage.
