Lagos State would experience above normal rainfall this year with about 1,936.2 millimetres volume of water expected.
Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, TOKUNBO WAHAB, said this at a news conference to announce the Seasonal Climate Predictions and their socio-economic implications for the State.
He said the annual briefing is to alert Lagosians on the need to adopt environmentally friendly lifestyles and do more to safeguard the environment.
According to WAHAB, the average annual rainfall amount predicted for 2024 is 1936.2 millimetres, which is greater than the long-term average of 1721.48 millimetres.
The rain is expected to start the first week of April and cease the first week of December.
The commissioner noted that below-normal rainfall is anticipated in the first half of the rainy season while normal to above normal is expected in the second half.
He reiterated the government’s plan to maintain the synergy with the Ogun-Oshun River Basin Authority while monitoring the rainfall from neighbouring Ogun, Oyo and Osun states, dams release and river water levels into the State.
WAHAB also noted that the Flood Early Warning Systems has been strengthened to deliver reliable, timely and effective flood information.
