The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has asked the Federal Government to pay university unions their outstanding salaries. 

The Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational (NASU) and Associated Institutions and Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) yesterday commenced a seven-day warning strike over the non-payment of their withheld four months salaries. 

In a statement by its President, JOE AJAERO, the NLC said there had been no credible reason or explanation for withholding the salaries of the unions. 

The Congress said the decision of the federal government to withhold the salaries of university workers plunged the members of the unions into indescribable hardship.

The NLC added that it defies logic to try to subject members of SSANU and NASU to discriminatory treatment.
