Senator OPEYEMI BAMIDELE from Ekiti Central Senatorial District has described claims made by Senator ABDUL NINGI that the 2024 Budget passed by the Senate was padded as a “civilian coup”.

Senator BAMIDELE, who is also the Majority Leader of the upper chamber, alleged that Senator NINGI attempted to unseat the President of the Senate, GODSWILL AKPABIO by allegedly inciting the Northern Senators’ Forum which he led against Senator AKPABIO, a southern senator.

The Senate Leader complained that some Northern Senators still had reservations against Senator AKPABIO after his June 2023 victory over former Zamfara State Governor, Senator ABDUL’AZIZ YARI. 

He further stated that the attempt to frustrate Senator AKPABIO’s tenure as President of the Senate must stop.
