Amid the planned protest by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) over the hardship faced by Nigerians, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, FEMI FALANA, has asked the Attorney General of the Federation, LATEEF FAGBEMI, to provide security for the demonstrators.
The human rights lawyer in a letter addressed to the Attorney General of the Federation said the Police Establishment Act empowers the Minister of Justice to provide security cover for the protesters.
FALANA claimed that the Industrial Court never barred organised labour from exercising their fundamental rights to freedom of expression to protest against the hardship in the country.
Besides, he said the judgement of the apex court in the case between the Inspector General of Police and All Nigeria Peoples upheld the fundamental right of Nigerians to protest on matters of public interest without a police permit.
FALANA, however, called on the organised labour to conduct their scheduled rallies peacefully and void of violence.
