The Department of State Services (DSS) has appealed to the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), to shelve its planned protest in the interest of peace and public order.
The NLC had last Friday, declared a two-day nationwide protest over the hardship being experienced by Nigerians as well as the deteriorating security situation in the country.
But in a statement by its spokesperson, PETER AFUNANYA, the DSS called on parties to pursue dialogue and negotiation rather than engaging in conducts that could heighten tensions.
It stated that the government at all levels are striving to better the prevailing economic condition and as such, should be given the benefit of the doubt.
In a reaction, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) insisted that the planned protests against the prevailing economic situation in the country will hold contrary to the warning issued by the Department of State Services to shelve its protests.
The NLC President, JOE AJAERO, in a statement he personally signed questioned why the DSS had yet to execute the arrest of those planning to disrupt the protests.
AJAERO noted that the NLC would not compromise the sovereignty or security of the country while assuring that the protests would be peaceful.
