NLC, TUC Issue 14-Day Ultimatum To FG Over Non-Implementation Of Agreements

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have issued a 14-day ultimatum to the Federal Government over the non-implementation of the 16-point agreement both parties reached after the removal of the petrol subsidy.

In a statement signed by the leaders of the two labour unions, JOE AJAERO and FESTUS USIFO, the organised labour expressed sadness that despite the passage of time, most of these crucial agreements remain unmet or trivially addressed, indicating a deliberate disregard for the principles of good faith, welfare and rights of Nigerian workers and Nigerians.

The organised labour said that it is giving the Federal Government 14 days starting from today February 9 to February 21, 2024, to fulfil its part of the understanding with the labour unions.

The labour unions said that the agreements which were reached with the Federal Government were focused on addressing the massive suffering and the general harsh socioeconomic consequences of the ill-conceived and ill-executed induced hike in the price of Premium Motor Spirit and the Devaluation of the Naira.

Organised Labour noted that it is regrettable that it is compelled to resort to such measures, but the persistent neglect of the welfare of citizens and Nigerian workers and the massive hardship leaves it with no choice.

It called upon the Federal Government to honour its commitments without delay, adding that the time for empty promises and excuses has passed.
