The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has promised to abide by the provisions of international humanitarian laws during its operations.
The Nigerian Air Force said it was ready to engage with organisations like the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) among others to achieve this.
The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal HASSAN ABUBAKAR, disclosed this during the ICRC team visit to the NAF headquarters in Abuja.
Air Marshal ABUBAKAR commended the ICRC for providing research and training assistance in various operation theatres.
He specifically noted the impactful role played by ICRC in areas of humanitarian assistance in units, colleges, and training institutions.
The Chief of Air Staff reiterated the Air Force’s readiness to engage with ICRC and other organisations in ensuring adherence to humanitarian laws while executing operations.
The ICRC team led by YANN BONZON, said the collaboration between his organisation and NAF was to ensure individuals who are affected by armed conflicts are treated with dignity.
He also noted that the dialogue between the two organizations serves as a testament to their dedication to advancing humanitarian efforts and fostering a culture of respect for human rights amid the challenges posed by conflict situations.
