5,081 people died nationwide in road accidents in 2023 – FRSC


The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has said a total of 5,081 people were killed in various road traffic crashes across the country in 2023.

 

The FRSC Corps Marshal, DAUDA BIU, who disclosed this at a press briefing in Abuja also noted that 31,874 people were injured in 10,617 road traffic crashes in 2023.

 

According to BIU, the crashes were caused by speed violations, overloading, continuous night journeys, and wrongful overtaking among others.

 

He also stated that five of its officers were knocked down by wayward drivers, adding that two died in the process.

 

The Corps Marshal noted that the worrisome situation must be reversed in 2024 and beyond.
