The Supreme Court has affirmed the election of the governor of Ogun State, DAPO ABIODUN.
A five-member panel of the court, in a unanimous judgment, dismissed the appeal by OLADIPUPO ADEBUTU, who was the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the last governorship election in Ogun State.
ADEBUTU’s appeal contends that the election of Governor ABIODUN did not comply with the electoral laws and he did not score the lawful majority votes. He was therefore asking the court to void his victory.
However, Justice TIJJANI ABUBAKAR, who read the lead judgment, held that ADEBUTU and the PD failed to prove their case.
Justice ABUBAKAR resolved all the issues raised for determination against the appellants and held that the appeal was without merit.
He thereafter affirmed Governor ABIODUN’s win in the election.
