Many feared dead, houses collapse in Ibadan explosion


The Special Adviser to Governor SEYI MAKINDE on Security, FATAI OWOSENI who was at the scene said the state government had directed that the victims be taken to every available hospital with the assurance to foot the bills.

 

OWOSENI, a retired Commissioner of Police, said that arrangements had been made for construction companies to erect lighting equipment, adding that a crane would also be moved to the scene to ease rescue efforts.

 

Also confirming the incident in a statement, the spokesman for the Oyo State Police Command, ADEWALE OSIFESO, said armed and plain-clothed officers have been deployed to avert any breakdown of law and order.

 

Also in a statement, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, DOTUN OYELADE, said all security agencies and other teams have been deployed to the scene to prevent a spillover from the explosion.

 

The teams at the scene of the explosion comprise the Red Cross, the Federal Road Safety Corps, the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Amotekun operatives, the Department of State Services, and the Oyo State Emergency Management Agency.
