The Federal Government has suspended the accreditation and evaluation of degree certificates from Benin Republic and Togo.
This move followed a report detailing how a degree was acquired from a university in Benin Republic in under two months.
According to a statement signed by AUGUSTINA OBILOR-DURU on behalf of the Director of Press and Public Relations, the Federal Ministry of Education lamented that some Nigerians deploy evil means and unacceptable methods to get a degree with the end objective of getting graduate job opportunities for which they are not qualified.
According to the government, the suspension persists pending the outcome of an investigation involving the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Education of Nigeria and the two countries as well as the Department of State Security Services and the National Youths Service Corps.
The ministry is calling on Nigerians to assist in providing information to help the committee as it seeks lasting solutions to prevent future occurrences.
It has also commenced internal administrative processes to determine the culpability or otherwise of staff for which applicable Public Service Rules would be applied.
