Lagos to continue demolition of illegal structures despite ‘propaganda’ – Commissioner

The Lagos State Government has vowed to continue demolishing illegal structures erected on drainage channels and other public spaces, despite what it termed “propaganda, blackmail, and threats” from some quarters.

The government’s stance comes in response to the recent demolition of buildings in Lekki and other parts of the state, which has drawn criticism from some individuals and groups.

Former Governor of Anambra State, PETER OBI, has recently condemned the demolitions, calling them “extra hardship on hapless citizens who are already battling with multi-dimensional poverty.”

However, the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, TOKUNBO WAHAB, said that the government would not be deterred from enforcing its environmental laws.

WAHAB stated that the era of “anyhowness” is over and that the government will not be swayed by propaganda or threats.

He added that the government is not targeting any particular group but rather enforcing the law equally for all.
