Organised Labour has declared a nationwide strike over the beating of the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) JOE AJAERO in Owerri, the Imo State capital.
The two labour centres – the NLC and Trade Union Congress (TUC) directed workers to stay off work starting from today.
Speaking with newsmen after a joint National Executive Council meeting, President of TUC, FESTUS OSIFO said all affiliates of the two labour centres had been mobilised to ensure the success of the strike.
OSIFO said the strike would remain until governments at all levels wake up to their responsibility.
He added that all affiliates and state councils of organised labour are directed to issue circulars for maximum compliance.
Earlier this month, some thugs and police officers allegedly attacked AJAERO and other NLC members who had gathered at the union’s council secretariat ahead of a planned protest in Imo state on November 1.
