Members of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) mobilised their members for a protest at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
The organised labour gathered at the airport around 8:58am to enforce their directive to members working in the aviation sector to stop all flights to Owerri, the Imo state capital.
The workers’ unions took travellers arriving and departing the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport by surprise as passengers were stranded.
The protesters also attempted to go into the airport but were stopped by the military at the checkpoint.
As a result of the refusal, the protesters blocked the entry and exit point of the airport, causing heavy traffic of vehicles on both sides thereby forcing travellers to make their way into the airport on foot.
Cars and airport taxis are stopped from gaining access to pick up passengers.
We will bring you more details in our subsequent bulletins.
