The Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, IDOWU OWOHUNWA has ordered the immediate removal of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Meiran Police Station for ‘supervisory ineptitude’.
Police spokesperson, BENJAMIN HUNDEYIN, confirmed the removal of the DPO in a statement.
The removal of the DPO followed an allegation of extortion by some policemen attached to the station against an engineer, IBRAHIM SALIU.
SALIU had accused the policemen of extorting 200,000 naira from him after detaining him and his brother, OLAIYA MURTALA, for not providing an identity card or the receipts for the phones found with his brother.
HUNDEYIN said that all the officers involved in the alleged extortion had been identified and are currently at the command headquarters, where their orderly room trial had commenced.
