The First Lady of Edo State, Her Excellency Betsy Obaseki, has emphasized the critical need to establish lasting peace and stability in the Niger Delta region to attract and retain investments vital for its progress.

These sentiments were expressed during the inauguration of the Niger Delta Student Union Government's Executives, led by its President, Scott Ogunseri, held at the UBTH Cooperative Hall in Benin City. 

Addressing the leaders of various youth groups representing the nine states of the Niger Delta who attended the event, Her Excellency Betsy Obaseki underscored the urgency of cultivating a peaceful environment in the Niger Delta, citing its pivotal role in fostering economic growth and development.

The First Lady, represented at the event by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Peter Okonkwo, drew attention to the pervasive crisis and conflict that have plagued the region, compelling numerous companies to relocate their headquarters from the Niger Delta to alternative areas such as Lagos.

Her Excellency reaffirmed Governor Godwin Obaseki's support for the Niger Delta Student Union Government and assumed the role of patron throughout the tenure of the newly inaugurated President, in accordance with the organization's constitution.

She encouraged the youth leaders to harness their collective strength for the betterment of students and emphasized the potential of political power to advance the interests of the Niger Delta's youth.

In his post-inauguration speech, President Ogunseri extended his gratitude to Governor Godwin Obaseki and the First Lady of Edo State for their unwavering support during the 2023 NIDSUG National Elective Unity Convention.

He acknowledged the importance of leadership as a responsibility, committing to steering NIDSUG towards its visionary goals. President Ogunseri emphasized unity as the cornerstone of their efforts, urging his fellow NIDSUGians to work together diligently to nurture growth and development within the organization.

The inauguration marked the dawning of a new era for NIDSUG, characterized by the shared commitment of its leaders and the broader community to realize a more prosperous and harmonious Niger Delta.
