The Deputy Governor of Lagos state, OBAFEMI HAMZAT, has reportedly denied rejecting his Nigerian citizenship.
An Immigration lawyer in the United States, OLUBUSAYO FASIDI, in a statement told the Lagos Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal, that Governor HAMZAT took an oath of allegiance in the United State to reject his Nigerian citizenship.
According to a statement by the deputy governor’s media office, the claims are misleading and inaccurate.
The statement noted that the reports circulating, are not the true picture of the proceedings that took place at the tribunal adding that, the witness tendered two documents, a blank form of application for US naturalization and a blank oath of US allegiance document respectively which were admitted and marked as exhibits.
The deputy governor has urged the public to disregard the deliberate falsehood, saying the testimony of the witness is under serious challenge.
