The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has organized a workshop on Effective Reporting of Economic and Financial Crimes for Journalists in the Benin Zonal Command.
In an address by the EFCC Chairman, Abdulrasheed Bawa, delivered by the Benin Zonal Commander, Kanu Idagu, the commission noted that the training is part of a series to deepen the capacity and broaden the knowledge of journalists.
He emphasized that the media remain a critical partner in the fight against corruption and financial crimes.
The EFCC Boss further challenged journalists to beam the searchlight on the operations of Designated Non-Financial Businesses and Professions.
Accoring to Bawa, the EFCC recorded 98.93 percent success rate in prosecution of suspects in 2022 losing only 41 cases representing 1.07 percent within the period.
He said conviction figures from economic and financial crime prosecutions in 2023 are already rising across the various commands of the commission.
The training featured presentations on New Money Laundering Framework, Duties and Responsibilities of Individuals and Corporate Organizations; Investigative Journalism and Nigeria's Fight against Money Laundering; and Digital Payment Systems.
