The Chief Medical Director, University of Benin Teaching Hospital, Professor Darlington Obaseki has said that more than 9,000 Nigerians spend over 1.9 billion dollars yearly on medical tourism.
He revealed this at the kick off ceremony for February 6th to 28th subsidized specialized surgeries to mark UBTH @50, Benin City.
The CMD said most Nigerians spend huge amount of money abroad because they are unaware they can get the same quality healthcare service in Nigeria, especially at UBTH at an affordable rate.
Professor Obaseki revealed that, in the latest program,115 patients registered for different kinds of surgeries and anybody who was screened and certified to undergo surgery would benefit from the programme.
