The National Healthcare Insurance Authority (NHIA) has met with stakeholders in the health sector in Edo State to address key developments contained in the new NHIA Act aimed at ensuring effective service delivery.
The stakeholders included Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs); MDs and Desk Officers of Health Care Facilities (HCF); Enrollees, comprising Ministries, Departments and Agencies, that are beneficiaries of health insurance coverage.
Addressing the stakeholders in Benin City, Edo State Coordinator NHIA, Honourable Ohonba Rahmond-Uyi said that the meeting was to sensitize and bring the stakeholders to to appreciate recent developments and innovations introduced by the new act.
According to him, the latest developments were occasioned by President Muhammadu Buhari signing of the NHIA Act into law.
In addition to the new act, Edo state Coordinator said that the commission under Professor Muhammad Nasiru Sambo leadership has witnessed a lot of initiatives toward achieving the Universal Health Coverage targeted at 2030.
The Head of Programs, Edo State NHIA, Theodore Ehanire stated that the quarterly meeting also affords the health practitioners the opportunity to resolve issues of concern that may impede the quality service delivery.
He noted that the sensitization was in line with the mandate of the Authority to give everyone a sense of belonging and as well ensure that enrollee rights, Group Individual and Family Social Insurance Programme (GIFSHIP), are properly addressed.
