Nigeria May Lose $23b In 2023 If Crude Oil Theft Is Unchecked, Says NSA

The Federal Government may lose 23 billion dollars in 2023 if crude oil theft continues.

The National Security Adviser, retired Major General Babagana Monguno, gave the estimate during the inauguration of a special investigation panel set up to check crude oil theft in the country.

Monguno expressed worries that the nation currently produces one million barrels of crude oil per day as against the two million barrels daily target by the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries.

The chairman investigative panel of crude oil theft, retired Major General Barry Ndiomu, said the committee will unravel all those involved in the crude oil theft in the country.

The committee is expected to submit its report by February 21st, 2023.
