Reports say that the National Executive Council of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has met over the recent payment of half-salaries by the federal government.
A member of ASUU’s NEC said the meeting started around 12:40 pm today.
This is following the half salaries reportedly paid to lecturers by the FG.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, FEMI GBAJABIAMILA, has appealed for calm over the issues between the Academic Staff Union of Universities and the Federal Government.
GBAJABIAMILA, in a statement, said the FG acted in the interest of the law adding that it was the government’s legitimate interest in preventing moral hazard and discouraging disruptive industrial actions.
The payment of the half-salaries triggered angry reactions from the lecturers, who insisted on getting the full payment of their October salaries.
