The Federal Government has explained that it cannot release the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) NNAMDI KANU because it said he is a threat to national security.
An Assistant State Counsel in the office of the Attorney-General of the Federation, DAVID KASWE told the Appeal Court in Abuja that KANU posed a flight risk and that the cult case held against him borders on national security.
He argued that the fundamental rights of the IPOB leader should be suspended in the interest of the nation.
Following this statement, NNAMDI KANU’s lawyer, MIKE OZEKHOME in the company of some southeast chiefs and town heads said, denying NNAMDI KANU his freedom is tantamount to illegal detention.
