The Lagos Government says the recent floods in the country are not affecting the state due to its proactiveness and investments in the drainage system.
This was revealed by the Lagos State Information and Strategy Commissioner GBENGA OMOTOSHO.
He listed several places in and outside of Nigeria where floods have killed many and displaced millions.
The minister of humanitarian affairs and disaster management, SADIYA UMAR FAROUQ in a statement, said the previous toll from last week stood at 500, but the numbers had risen in part because some state governments had not prepared for the floods.
She added that the flooding also completely destroyed more than 82,000 houses and nearly 110,000 hectares (272,000 acres) of farmland.
